Here is a little background info on the team.

The Admirals is one of five (5) teams in the NZIHL. We are based in West Auckland, New Zealand. Auckland is New Zealand’s largest city and is surrounded by beautiful beaches and coastlines with a population of 1.6 million people. We have a number of National team and National junior team players on our roster. The majority of the players are working professionals as ice hockey in New Zealand is fully amateur.

The regular season runs roughly from May to the start of September which is our winter. Every team plays sixteen (16) games, eight (8) at home and eight (8) away. We play every team four (4) times and the top two (2) teams at the end of the regular season the top three teams make playoffs, with the format being 2 v 3 and the winner then taking on the first placed regular season team in a Grand Final series. All games are double-headers (playing on either Saturday & Sunday or Friday & Saturday nights) to work around weekly work schedules.

Our rink is based in Avondale and is NHL sized. We have our own locker room that allows our players to leave their equipment at the rink. We generally have two (2) on-ice and two (2) off-ice compulsory trainings per week. However, there are a number of events throughout the season players are expected to attend.

The League has a current limit of four (2) imports dressed per team. In the past, imports have come from America, Canada, Finland, Great Britain, Hungary, Czech, and France.
